Diving unspoiled coral reefs and ancient shipwrecks in Socotra is a unique experience ! The visibility ranges from 10-40 metres. The best season for diving is from the end of September to mid-November and from March to May. The sea is calm at that time and the visibility is good. Why is Socotra famous for diving and snorkeling? Because the archipelago is surrounded by a marine region including species from the Western Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, East Africa and the greater Indo-Pacific. The island has the following five unique spots with outstanding marine life:
Dihamri protected area (5 diving spots) with more than 80 kinds of corals and 150 species of fish. The underwater reef is astonishing and you can dive up to 50 meters deep, it’s also the best place for snorkelling.
Rosh protected area is a marine zone with a reef drop off about 1 km from the shore. The depth you can dive varies from 10 to 15 metres.
Adho,where the possibility for diving is up to 30 meters deep with scoop of fish, you can also snorkel in the shallowest waters.
Erissel ( 7 diving spots)is in the easternmost tip of the island, at junction between the Arabian sea and Indian Ocean. It is a well known trade route, and during the last 50 years, several ships wrecked in these waters where their wrecks can be seen. The shallow waters of the cape are covered with the fragments of ancient ships. It has been declared protected area.
Shu’ab ,in the west of the island, is the spot where the biggest wreck can be found
